Years in the making, Albatross is a stunning visual journey into the heart of a gut-wrenching environmental tragedy. On Midway Island, one of the remotest areas on Earth, tens of thousands of albatross chicks lie dead on the ground, their bodies filled with plastic.
Photographer-filmmaker Chris Jordan and his film crew pay witness to the cycles of birth, life, and death of these magnificent creatures; a multi-layered metaphor for our times. Albatross walks us through the fire of horror and grief, facing the immensity of this tragedy — and our complicity — and on to a deeply felt experience of beauty and love for the miracle of life on Earth.
This screening is presented free of charge at the filmmakers’ request, and will be followed by a panel discussion on plastics pollution and safeguarding the environment, presented by Vancity.
