Zero Waste Canada Congratulates Jamie Kaminski on His Appointment as ZWIA Managing Director
On behalf of Zero Waste Canada and members of the Canadian Zero Waste community, we are pleased to congratulate our Board Member Jamie Kaminski on his appointment as Managing Director of the Zero Waste International Alliance (ZWIA).
In this new role, Jamie will provide strategic leadership and coordination for ZWIA’s international work, supporting collaboration across its Board, national affiliates, advisors, working groups and international partners, while continuing his work with Zero Waste Canada.
The appointment represents a meaningful opportunity for Jamie to support international cooperation, education, policy development and alignment around credible Zero Waste standards and best practices.
Years of Contribution to Zero Waste Policy
Jamie has worked in resource management for more than 27 years, combining practical operational experience with participation in Canadian and international Zero Waste policy development.
As a member of the Zero Waste Canada Board, and through his previous service on the ZWIA Board of Directors, Jamie has worked with advocates and policy advisors to help advance strong, practical and internationally aligned approaches to Zero Waste.
Before accepting his new role, Jamie also served as Chair of the ZWIA Zero Waste Hierarchy Working Group, helping coordinate international input into a framework used to guide governments, organizations, institutions and businesses toward responsible resource management.
Recognizing the People Behind the Work
Jamie would like to express his sincere appreciation to Richard Anthony for his vision, leadership, mentorship and friendship. Richard has dedicated more than two decades to building the Zero Waste International Alliance and will continue to provide guidance and support during this leadership transition.
Jamie also recognizes that his understanding of Zero Waste has been shaped through years of collaboration with an extraordinary international community of colleagues, mentors, Board members, national affiliate leaders and friends.
He is especially grateful to Gary Liss, Elena Mateo, Ruth Abbe, Annemarie Sauter, Rodrigo Sabatini, Mahesh Nakarmi, Neil Seldman, Pål Mårtensson, Sonia Mendoza, Dorte Wray, Enzo Favoino, Buddy Boyd, Barb Hetherington, Mike Ewall, Sue Maxwell, Paolo Muir, and the many others around the world who have generously shared their knowledge, perspectives, encouragement and friendship over the years.

Zero Waste Canada is a national affiliate of the Zero Waste International Alliance. This relationship helps connect Canadian education, policy, certification and practical experience with internationally recognized Zero Waste principles and best practices.
Jamie’s expanded role creates further opportunities for Canadian experience to contribute to international conversations while also helping Zero Waste Canada remain connected to new ideas, research, policies and examples from around the world.
